Common Field Clumps was the venue and 40 plus turned out for the final Ixion Sunday morning meeting of the summer being the last round of the 2025 club championships. Maybe the nationwide or local bad weather forecast had put a few off and on this note the course plotters decided we don't want a National on our hands if the heavens open so eased sections were marked-out on all routes. However we set off in the sun with a cold breeze to tackle four laps of ten sections at the excellent Folly Farm Beckley.
On the 50/50 hard/middle route Jason Clifford Vertigo aced the the pack of riders with a superb ride losing 19 on his way to winning the 2025 club Champs with a clean sweep of victories over all five rounds. Jason recorded the only clean of the day on the hard route at section three a steep drop into a ditch with a six yard gully before blasting out over the final hazard another even wider stream crossing. Jack Turner took runner-up spot in the class but with the best ride of the day at section nine a really tough affair dropping through Gorse to skirt a Big Oak then a three foot fallen Sycamore before selecting fourth gear to blast up the wet cambered climb to the ends.
On the Yellow middle route Alan Taylor TRS 250 just edged out Dave Barrett 250 Beta by 2 marks to take the silverware for 2025 in the Clubman class. Both riders were exceptional at sub eight the Lagoon perimeter consisting of an eighty yard long climb with many fallen trees to cross at varying angles where you had to be spot-on with your line or the deep stuff awaited.
The best performance on the middle route was recorded by Paul Hadingham on the ageing Bultaco 250 losing 14. Paul was putting the old Twinshock though it's paces at section seven finding grip where modern machinery couldn't up a very narrow gully around a stricken Elm then a tricky offset camber over roots up to the end cards where Ian Toplis was waiting to mark his card.
Young Jack Pettit was on-song again with a good performance on the little 125 Beta with a very creditable 26 mark tally taking the Youth B top-spot not and for the first time this year. Jack although lacking power on some of the harder sections he had no problem with section ten an innocuous looking job starting with a steady grassy bank then a turn down and a hop over a large rotten Elder with a short wet banked camber to finish although a couple of steadying prods were needed on laps two and three to be able to push out.
A varied entry of man and machine were providing the entertainment on the White Eased route today with both Rob Bremner 400 Triumph Twin and Simon Dowling 250 Beta both finishing on 5 marks lost but the tie-break was not brought into play as separate classes were be contested Pre 65 and Sportsman. imon made section four look easy with cleans every visit, a steep wooded climb before exiting over a grassy rocky camber. Simon is now crowned Sportsman Class 2025 champion for this year.
Another club champion for the 2025 season is Joe Pusey 125 Beta in the Youth A class, Joe piloting the little Beta around section one with precision, a very slick drop with a turn on the edge of a ditch then a left turn to dry land.
Many thanks to all who helped on the day and those who stayed for twenty minutes after the event to collect a few markers.
Next Trial is the Ivan Davis in September on the 14th.
